Updates
It seems like a lot of time has passed and there isn't too much to report, but actually ...
I've worked on several aspects of the project that are not directly related to building it; i.e., set up of an LLC, some other legal things, etc. But as far as actual progress on the "prototype," work continues on four fronts:
- touchscreen user interface (UI) code
- building of instrument body
- electronics design
- signal processing code
I am coding the UI which is half work on the tedious touchscreen code and half the actual functionality involved: calibration of various electronics, copedent editing and saving and swapping, etc., etc.
The building is being done by Frank Carter in and around his other obligations.
The electronics design is being done by an EE I've been working with since the beginning.
And the signal processing, the pitch-shifting, code is being done by a number of DSP programmers I've been in contact with. This may be the hardest part of the project in terms of finding the right people with the right expertise with the time to work on it and getting it all to run on the proper hardware.
Anyway, that's where it's at. I hope to have a self-contained instrument, a solid, handsome, pedal steel guitar, ready for another Summit in Nashville, by some time in 2018.
Onward and upward!
